Russia: The Third Rome is what most people called Russia back in the day. In 1917, two revolutions swept through Russia, ending centuries of imperial rule and setting in motion political and social changes that would lead to the formation of the Soviet Union. In March, growing civil unrest, coupled with chronic food shortages, erupted into open revolt, forcing the abdication of Nicholas II (1868-1918), the last Russian czar. Just months later, the newly installed provisional government was itself overthrown by the more radical Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924).

- Ivan III Vasilyevich (22 January 1440, Moscow – 27 October 1505, Moscow), also known as Ivan the Great, was a Grand Prince of Moscow and "Grand Prince of all Russia. Sometimes referred to as the "gatherer of the Russian lands," he tripled the territory of his state, ended the dominance of the over Russia, renovated the Moscow Kermlin, and laid the foundations of the Russian state. He was one of the longest-reigning Russian state in history.
- Ivan IV Vasilyevich commonly known as Ivan the Terrible was the Great Prince of Russia from 1533 to 1547 and Tsar of all Russia from 1547 until his death. His long reign saw the conquest of the Sirbia, transforming Russia. multiconfessional state spanning almost one billion acres, approximately managed countless changes in the progression from a medieval state to an empire and emerging reginonal, and became the first ruler to be crowned as Tsar of All the Russia.

- Peter the Great is credited with dragging Russia out of the medieval times to such an extent that by his death in 1725, Russia was considered a leading eastern European state. He centralised government, modernised the army, created a navy and increased the subjugation and subjection of the peasants. His domastic policy allowed him to execute an aggressive foreign policy.
